John Nielsen was the first person to electronically broadcast surfing via his original twice daily Radio4GG Surfshow.

During this time from 1978, JN simply called literally every leading SURF icon & personality daily from Studio B at the Bundall Rd Studious of the Gold Coast Radio Broadcaster 1200 on the AM dial.

As 4GG's Surfing Coordinator JN also fostered many firsts along with leading thinkers & surfer evolutionaries such as Bill Bolman, STUBBIES Open Surf Classic Tournament director form 1978 who replaced Visionary Peter Drouyn at the helm after 1977 Launch. Close friend & early mentor John Charlton of Coastalwatch & Surfing Qld' Chairman who was also Billabong Founder Gordon Merchants right hand man encouraged JN to expand the original Worlds 1st Surfschools offered FREELY along Gold Coast beaches with the added incentive of a free Pauls' MILK & the chance to win a Brothers Neilsen Surfboard. CH9 (having told JN that Surfing "would never make it onto TV") after John presented the 1st ever TV Surfshow concept filmed by Dick Hoole of Hoole / McCoy fame, Tubular Swells etc eventually signed on & added the Bronzed Aussies' Ian Cairns, Mark Warren, Peter Townend & Jnr BA's Cheyne Horan & Jimmy Banks to Team 120 4GG. HISTORY was made. JN was head-hunted by Jack O'Neill to replace his Son Pat as TEAM O'Neill 1st non O'Neill Family International Promotions Manager & moved to HQ in Santa Cruz CA, but that's another story! Stay Tuned!
